"The Horn Ranch was one of the largest holdings in Colorado. Four generations of Horns worked this ranch and preserved the land. About four years ago, I received a Phone call: 'Hello, Karen Vance? This is Carol Horn; you need to get out here and paint this place. ' That was my first encounter with Carol. I've since taken her up on her offer and walked the land with her and listened to stories about the ranch, about raising livestock and about how the ranch has changed. With all of this, I painted this piece. So much more goes into a painting than just a scene. " |
